Vlašić

First of its kind geothermal project in the wild of Croatia

Location

The plant is situated in Ciglena, near the city of Bjelovar in northern Croatia, a region characterized by a geothermal gradient significantly higher than the European average.

Scale

Features a gross capacity of 16.5 MW (10 MW net), utilizing a specialized Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) turbine to harness 175°C fluids from a depth of nearly 3,000 meters.

Impact

As Croatia’s first geothermal power plant, it provides a stable, 24/7 "baseload" power supply for roughly 29,000 households while operating as a closed-loop system with zero CO2 emissions.

Future Projects

Following a 2026 resolution of ownership disputes, the site is undergoing rehabilitation, while the surrounding region is being scouted for larger sister projects—including a massive 80 MW plant planned nearby in Legrad.
